Components of the Partners for Recovery/Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network Leadership Institutes

The PFR/ATTC Leadership Institute Program includes the following components:

  • Protégé Formal Assessment
The Protégé formal assessment is a 360-degree assessment of job strengths, leadership/management competencies and developmental need. In this assessment, Protégés receive a gap analysis, individualized feedback reports, and suggestions for development. With the assistance of an assigned Mentor, an action plan for the professional development of each Protégé is created.

  • Five-Day Immersion Training
Trainers from the Graduate School USDA facilitate a 5-day intensive training session. During this immersion training, Protégés are presented with a conceptual framework regarding leadership theory and practice. Other components of the immersion training experience include an analysis of the 360-degree assessments; multiple leadership development activities; professional relationship building; orientation to the Blackboard; and the provision of Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Mentors also receive an intense orientation to the Leadership Institute Program during immersion training.

  • Individualized Leadership Development Plan (ILDP)
The ILDP is a template for Protégés to map out their leadership development objectives and career path competencies. With the help of a Mentor, Protégés develop confidential individualized plans that address competencies and areas for enhancement identified through the 360-degree assessment.

  • Experiential Learning/Mentorship
Experiential learning and mentorship gives Protégés an opportunity to apply the skills they have acquired to relevant settings. During this time, ongoing communication occurs between Protégés, Mentors and the Regional Center via the Blackboard and conference calls. Protégés are responsible for developing a final project for presentation at graduation. The plan for these projects are created and finalized two months after the initial immersion trainings.

  • Booster Training
Approximately midway through the program (three months), Protégés engage in an additional one-day leadership and skill building session. Mentors are encouraged to attend the Booster session as a measure to enhance the guidance they provide to Protégés.

  • Graduation
To commemorate the accomplishment of completing the Leadership Institutes, Protégés take part in graduation ceremonies that are organized by each ATTC. As part of the graduation, Protégés present their projects.
